Gorka Marquez from Strictly spends a night in hospital just days before Christmas

“Strictly Come Dancing” professional Gorka Marquez spent a night in hospital – just a few days before Christmas.

The 31-year-old dancer shared a photo of himself on an IV but assured his fans that he was fine.

He said he had spent “an interesting 24 hours in the hospital” but thanked the doctors and nurses “for being so kind to me.”

Gorka told his 684,000 Instagram followers that he was now home enjoying “cookies and cuddles.”

The father-of-one did not reveal why he spent the night in hospital, instead opting for a more cheerful tone, joking that his partner Gemma Atkinson thought it was an “excuse to avoid wrapping Christmas presents”.

This came just three days after his return for the glitzy finale of Strictly Come Dancing, where EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and her professional dance partner Giovanni Pernice lifted the Glitterball trophy.

Gorka wrote of his hospital stay: “I was looking forward to Christmas at home but the 24 hours in hospital were interesting. @glouiseatkinson thinks it was an excuse to avoid all the Christmas wrapping…

“Anyway… everything is fine and I'm back home eating cookies and getting cuddles from my little nurse. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Fairfield Hospital for being so kind to me.

“HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!”

His co-stars immediately sent Gorkaz their best wishes. Katya Jones wrote, “Oh no! Get well soon, Gorkas.”

And Amy Dowden commented: “Get well soon, Gorks.”

Finalist John Whaite said: “Hope you're well, Gorksybabes.” He added two heart emojis.

Earlier this year, Gorka took part in this year's series alongside Hollyoaks actress Katie McGlynn, but the pair became the second couple to be eliminated from the competition during filming week.

In the show “This Takes Two,” McGlynn said after returning home that the two would remain friends.

She said: “We are sad because this means we will no longer be rehearsing together. It means our journey is over, but we will still remain friends.”
