Jon Bon Jovi says not every day is “Christmas” for him

In a recently surfaced interview, Bon Jovi singer Jon Bon Jovi and keyboardist David Bryan talked about their documentary “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.”

When the presenter praised the documentary and said he saw it and loved it, the singer said he was very happy with the result of the documentary. He then explained how they decided to shoot the surgical part for the film:

“We are very happy with the result. Gotham Chopra, whose father is Deepak Chopra, for those listening [is a] A great director who really captured the essence of those first forty years. Nobody, especially me, knew about the impending neck surgery, but he said, 'I'm going to shoot it.' So he shot it. He wanted to see what happened. So he told the wonderful story of life.”

He then compared life in a rock band to Christmas morning and explained the challenges he faces in the band:

“People think being in a rock band is about enjoying Christmas morning, but there's a lot of work involved too.”

Thoughts from a former member on the documentation

Although Jon Bon Jovi believes the documentary perfectly captures the last 40 years, one former member did not like the way he was portrayed.

Former guitarist Richie Sambora said in an interview that the documentary contained lies about him:

“That's one of the other things that was reflected in the documentary: that people thought I was, what, a drunk? Like I didn't show up one day because I was high? That doesn't make any sense to anyone. It's a contradiction.”

Apparently there was no communication between the two and that was the reason for the “lies”:

“It was obviously a series of a lot of things over a period of 31.5 years. We couldn't talk to each other at the time. We didn't talk – we didn't communicate. And I thought to myself, 'That means it's stale.'”

Jon “was not a good singer”

Jon's surgery in 2022 was to correct a vocal cord problem. He needed a long recovery but still recorded the band's latest album, “Forever.”

David Bryan spoke about Jon Bon Jovi's vocal problems in another interview. When the host asked if Bon Jovi would tour again, noting that this question was left unanswered in their new documentary, the rocker replied:

“Well, I mean, it's in the documentary. Everyone learned something. You know, Jon's vocal problems. We dated briefly, and right after the pandemic, and it was tough. He couldn't sing well, and it wasn't his fault, and he went to the doctor and found out he needed surgery.”

He added:

“So he had surgery almost two years ago, and that's what's shown in the documentary. So there's a reason why he couldn't sing so well. They show that and then the progress he made from then on. It took maybe a year.”
