Merry Christmas! The festive season comes to Bridlington… in August

Seashells are exchanged for bells… because Christmas in Bridlington comes on a day in August.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is hosting Bridmas Day in the town on Wednesday 7th August to promote the many fun events and attractions coming to the area over the festive period.

On this day, winter-themed events will take place from 9am-4pm at venues and service facilities such as Bridlington Spa, Sewerby Hall and Gardens and even on the famous country trains.

Directly at the sea

Bridmas Day begins on the South Beach outside Bridlington Spa, where the council's Active Coast team host free activities with a festive sparkle.

The city's parades will be belting out Christmas classics all day to get people in the spirit.

Bridlington Spa

A free screening of the ever-popular film “Elf” starring Will Ferrell will take place at 2 p.m. at the Spa Theatre.

The café offers seasonal treats throughout the day, including the popular scones.

Sewerby Hall and Gardens

Christmas delicacies will be served in the Clocktower Café – and there will also be Christmas accents in the hall itself.

East Riding Leisure Bridlington

To celebrate the event, a free swimming lesson will be held at the center from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

And the café’s visitors are greeted in a festive atmosphere.

South Cliff Holiday Park

Park visitors and owners get into the Christmas spirit as the venue's Welcome Center is transformed into a Christmas ambience.

Various venues

People may also have the chance to meet crowd favourite Troy Harris, who plays Muddles in this year's Bridlington Spa pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk.

Troy will appear in costume at various locations throughout the day.

There will also be a chance to win some fantastic Christmas-themed prizes at the events.

Councillor Barbara Jefferson, council member for heritage and coast, said: “It is certainly unusual to bring Christmas to the coast in the height of summer, but we really hope people will join in the festive fun.”

“It's all about promoting the many fantastic events and activities we have on offer over the holidays. And there's so much more happening, it's going to be an amazing day!”

“The aim of this event is to show that Bridlington is not just a summer destination – it is also a fantastic place to visit at Christmas time as we have many events and attractions for both locals and visitors including the Panto in the Spa and Winter Woodland event at Sewerby Hall and Gardens, the Santa Express land trains and festive offers at our leisure centre.”
