FIRST LOOK: Doctor Who's 2024 Christmas Special

Joy meets the Doctor in a special broadcast Doctor Who Preview of the Christmas special!

Among all the news and joys of this weekend San Diego Comic-Con, Doctor Who Fans got a first look at this year's Christmas special. The episode titled Joy for the worldGuest stars Bridgerton And Derry Girl Nicola Coughlan as Joy. The scene shows Joy's first meeting with the Doctor as their adventure together begins. It also gives us our first look at one of the familiar creatures that feature in the story. But are they friend or foe, or something in between? There's even a hint that writer Steven Moffat is going to turn a very ordinary, everyday thing into something you'll never look at the same way again…

Full of hope and optimism, Joy visits London for Christmas. She is travelling alone and has a single room in a hotel for the week. A room with “one of those doors”. The kind of hotel room door to nowhere that is permanently locked. But it's definitely just a connecting door to the next room when groups have booked both. Well, probably. Maybe.

Meanwhile, the Doctor is on a mission through Earth's history to deliver a ham and cheese toastie and a pumpkin latte. On his journey, he goes through many of “those doors” until he finally finds himself in London in 2024, facing Joy… and a Silurian?

The special preview promises a fun Christmas treat

Who is Joy? Why is she in London? Does she even like ham and cheese toasties? And who on Earth or anywhere else drinks a pumpkin spice latte in what is obviously gingerbread latte season? (Time waster, caffeine weapon.)

And more importantly, why is a Silurian in her hotel room? Why is he disguised as a hotel manager? And why does he sound like he's uttering bizarre phrases like a spy hoping for a countersign?

There are now less than five months until we find out!
