Dan Reynolds and ex Aja Volkman of Imagine Dragons finalize divorce and share custody of 4 children

The ex-partners have daughters Arrow Eve (11), Gia James and Coco Rae (both 6) and son Valentine (4).

Imagine Dragons' Dan Reynolds' divorce from Aja Volkman has been finalized, 11 months after she filed for divorce in April 2023.

The former couple, who married on March 5, 2011, finalized their proceedings on Monday, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their separation, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

Reynolds, 36, and the 43-year-old singer Nico Vega have joint custody and residency rights for their four children: daughters Arrow Eve (11), Gia James and Coco Rae (both 6), and 4-year-old son Valentine.

Court documents state that the ex-partners also entered into another judgment containing confidential information regarding child support, spousal support, division of assets, attorney fees/costs and other issues.

According to the documents, the Grammy winner and Volkman stated that their separation would take place on August 8, 2022. The following month, they publicly announced their separation.

Representatives for Reynolds and Volkman did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

In February, the former couple reached a divorce settlement and entered into a property and child custody agreement, seeking a judge's approval, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE at the time. In the agreement, Volkman also asked the court to stop paying spousal support to the “Radioactive” artist.

A day after Volkman filed for divorce in April 2023, she wrote a lengthy statement on Instagram saying that the split “marked a pretty big transition in our lives,” noting that it had been a challenging adjustment.

“It's been hard for both Dan and me to navigate a public space while going through all the things we've been through this year,” she wrote.

“There's no saying that's fair because we both chose the stage as our career path, so of course that's part of the deal,” the musician continued. “However, I have never discussed the details of our marriage, separation or divorce. Nor do I intend to.”

Volkman then expressed her love for her four “wonderful children” and urged her followers “not to make a witch hunt out of the unknown.”

“I think that by not saying anything about it at all, I've led people to conclusions that just don't reflect reality. Of course, no one can imagine that they're going to fail at the beginning,” she added. “We're fighting like crazy and doing our best to get a positive outcome. Life is just really wild.”

Reynolds announced the split in September 2022 via X (formerly Twitter). “I am sad to say that Aja and I have separated after many wonderful years together,” he wrote on the platform.

The “Thunder” artist continued, “Our number one priority is to be great parents to our children. Thank you for always supporting us with love and care throughout the years.”

Since splitting from Volkman, Reynolds has been dating actress Minka Kelly. The two were photographed on a five-hour dinner date in Los Angeles in November 2022 and were later seen kissing in March 2023 while he carried her luggage.
