Christmas puddings left in Cardiff parks trigger ‘poison warning’ among dog owners

A Cardiff vet has issued a warning to dog owners after a spate of “suspected poisonous food” was left in a park. The Marlborough Road and Cowbridge Road veterinary centres said they had reported the food to police.

In addition to the vet's warning, several dog owners posted warnings to others on social media, saying they had found Christmas pudding in the parks. Some of the ingredients, including grapes, raisins, currants and sultanas, can be toxic to dogs.

These items have been reported in Roath Park, Roath Recreation Ground and Pontcanna Fields this week. In a warning on its social media page, the veterinary practice said: “Warning. We are aware of suspected poisonous food items at Roath Recreation Ground over the last two days.”

“Please take extra care when walking your dogs. We have reported the items to South Wales Police.” Police have been asked for comment.

There have been speculations on social media that the items were not placed out of malice towards dogs, but rather to feed animals such as squirrels and birds, but this has not been confirmed. Join our WhatsApp news community here for the latest breaking news
