Two men prosecuted for illegal waste disposal in West Norfolk

The man, from London, was caught after a local from Barton Bendish, near Swaffham, caught the young man disposing of waste from his employer's van, which he used for clearance work.

They confronted the man but were not satisfied with the apology, noted the details of the van and contacted the city administration.

Based on the information, a law enforcement officer was able to locate the company that owned the van and identify one of its employees as the person responsible.

During questioning, he admitted to illegally dumping rubbish and was fined £200.

The man, from Cambridge, was caught after a council CCTV officer caught him illegally dumping rubbish at the charity bins on Valentine Road in Hunstanton.

He had dumped household waste and odds and ends next to the bins intended for donations of still usable clothing and shoes.

After investigating using pictures of the car's occupants, license plate number and contents of the bags, a local woman identified a family member who had taken the garbage from her home.

As a result, the man from Cambridge also had to pay a fine of £200.

Sandra Squire, Head of Environment and Coast, said: “It doesn't matter if you're from West Norfolk, London or Cambridge, we are determined to tackle those who damage the local environment by illegally dumping their rubbish.”

“There is simply no excuse for dumping rubbish next to charity rubbish bins or on the side of the road next to a farmer’s field in our beautiful area.

“The persistent work of our enforcement officers in eradicating illegal dumping and solving cases, even when we have to leave the county to do so, shows how seriously we take our duty to protect West Norfolk.”
