Season 3 of “Heartstopper” introduces a character that fans were convinced was not real

Thanks to various pop-ups across the UK this summer, fans are getting an idea of what Heartstopper season three has in store – including the introduction of a long-missing character.

Netflix delayed teasers for Heartstopper Season 3 longer than any other upcoming movie or TV series. Fans had to solve puzzles and travel to events to see previews, but the hard work paid off.

A replica of Charlie's bedroom is currently touring various UK locations, with visitors at each set being treated to exclusive content from season three. After the last event, fans spotted Michael Holden, a character we never saw in the adaptation.

Fans of Alice Oseman's other works will remember Michael as the main character in the book Solitaire, which is about Charlie's older sister Tori. Since she plays a major role in the new TV series, fans expected Michael to appear as well.

“NEW HEARTSTOPPER S3 CLIP: MICHAEL HOLDEN IS REAL,” posted one fan on X/Twitter.

A second chimed in: “Mikey God (Michael) Holden is here in the Heartstopper house, guys!! And oh my god, is my boy just the greatest thing that ever happened or what…”

A third agreed: “Michael Holden, Charlie and Tori Spring, I'm freaking out.”

Michael is introduced to the group in the season three episode “Heartstopper” when he comes to the Spring family home to see Tori… but he has a gift for Charlie.

Presenting him with a porcelain cat found in a charity shop, the scene is meant to recreate one of the graphic novel's most embarrassing moments – the pair accidentally meowing at each other.

“OMG MICHAEL AND CHARLIE MEOWING IN THE SAME VIDEO,” mused one fan, while another posted, “HELLO AND MEOW.”

“OH MY GOD MICHAEL HOLDEN IF**KING LOVE YOU,” screamed a third.

At the time of writing, it is unclear exactly when Michael will appear in Heartstopper Season 3. Other preview clips have revealed that the New Year's party will also take place in Book 4.
