Not all is well in DeMbare’s camp

The pressure continues to mount on Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe after his side suffered a disappointing draw against Bikita Minerals at Rufaro Stadium in Harare on Sunday.

It was a game that once again exposed the home team's goal drought.

The giants from Harare dominated proceedings for much of the game, but were terribly wasteful.

A frustrated Mangombe substituted Valentine Kadonzvo for Emmanuel Paga in the 37th minute, hoping for a breakthrough.

Kadonzvo was clearly not very happy with this decision and went straight to the tunnel leading to the dressing room, to the cheers of his sympathetic home team fans.

Mangombe said he decided to take the player out of the game early for tactical reasons.

Mangombe said Kadonzvo's reaction was understandable, but he would not tolerate this disrespect.

“It's always like that. As a coach, I understand these things,” Mangombe said.

“I'm the one who introduced him and he didn't do what he was supposed to do, but that doesn't mean he won't play the next game. If he does the right things in training, he will play.”

“But we do not accept the behavior he showed in front of other players. We have to correct that.”

Mangombe attributed his team's draw, their second in a row, to a lack of firepower in attack.

Dynamos, who were without the injured Donald Mudadi and Tanaka Shandirwa, had most of the possession but failed to produce a final result.

Kadonzvo, Sadney Urikhob, Alex Mandinyenya and Elton Chikona all had half chances but could not finish, which made Mangombe nervous.

“It's frustrating that we didn't score any goals, but our style of play was perfect. We played very well, apart from not scoring a goal. We knew it wouldn't be easy for us to play against Bikita Minerals, but I have to thank the boys for not conceding a goal. We need to improve in our attacking third. We need to find a good striker because in every game we create good chances, but we mourn after every game because we don't take them.”

Bikita Minerals coach Jani, whose team lost five players in this month's transfer window, said he was happy to go home with a point although he felt they could have taken all three.

Their best chance fell to Barnabas Mutuche, but the midfielder failed to find the net despite having plenty of space.

“It’s worth a point after traveling all the way from Bikita,” Jani said.

“We wanted this point. Of course we wanted to win here, but we got a point and are happy as a team.”

“The players performed well considering we lost about five key players who were all regulars. It's hard to replace those guys.”

We could have won the game… we should have taken the chance that Barnabas got. That was a clear chance for us.”

The result leaves Dynamos in seventh place with 29 points, while Bikita is in eleventh place with 25 points.
