The European Heritage Days are an annual event launched in 1984 by the French Ministry of Culture and expanded to European level in 1991. In Provins, a medieval town in the Seine-et-Marne department, the European Heritage Days take on a special dimension, with a visit to the historic town and a tour the archaeological siteProvins, famous for its medieval remains, which are known as UNESCO World Heritage Site is taking this opportunity to highlight its rich historical past. The site is exceptionally open to the public, offering visitors the chance to step into the shoes of archaeologists and learn how they work on site through a series of activities and events.

  • Archaeological excavations – The former Benedictine abbey of Champbenoist
    21 and 22 September

    Exceptional opening of the site of the former Benedictine Abbey of Champbenoist (12th-16th centuries), property of the department.
    Presentation of the first results of the archaeological research carried out by Anne Nissen, Professor of Medieval Archaeology at the Université Paris I Panthéon – Sorbonne, together with her students as part of the project to restore and enhance the remains supported by the State, the Department and the City of Provins.
