According to a new study, one in three Americans has already watched a Christmas movie this year.

The study of 2,000 Americans examined how many people are getting into the holiday spirit earlier than ever before. 64 percent of respondents said they are more excited about the holidays this year than ever before.

Of those who have already seen a Christmas film, two in five started in October, while 37 percent saw a Christmas film for the first time in September. One in five started in August or earlier.

When asked why they decided to start watching Christmas movies so early, one in five admitted they needed a little extra cheering up this year. This is not surprising, as 72 percent agreed that watching Christmas movies brings them comfort.

14 percent had nothing left to watch and one in ten was simply bored.

The survey, commissioned by Tubi and conducted by OnePoll, found that 56 percent of respondents had a rule in recent years about when it was officially acceptable to use holiday content.

In recent years, 25 percent of respondents wanted to start holiday celebrations on December 1, while 23 percent decided to get into the holiday spirit on Thanksgiving Day.

Of those who have a rule, two-thirds (67 percent) say they need to break it this year and start the holidays earlier after 2020 was so difficult due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Those who watch Christmas movies early are more likely to have quickly watched their traditional Christmas favorites and need to find new ones.

The results showed that 80 percent of respondents agreed that they are likely to watch more Christmas films this year than usual. More than one in five (21 percent) plan to watch 10 to 12 Christmas films.

Four out of five (79 percent) say they started watching Christmas films early and therefore need to watch new films.
