Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs will reportedly return to the NBA schedule on Christmas Day

SAN ANTONIO – If a report from a reliable NBA reporter on Thursday is to be believed, the Spurs will play during the most important exhibition game of the NBA regular season.

Shams Charania, a reporter for The Athletic, announced that the San Antonio Spurs will participate in the NBA's five Christmas games during the 2024–25 season.

According to Charania, the Spurs will travel to Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks.

It's no secret that Victor Wembanyama is considered Spurs' main attraction in this matchup. For anyone who didn't watch a Spurs game last season, Wembanyama will likely be most officially introduced on Saturday afternoon at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, when his French team takes on the battle-hardened Team USA in the gold medal game.

Considering who's coming back, who's adding new players this offseason, and their chances of challenging the defending champion Boston Celtics, the 2024-25 season will be the most anticipated season in 30 years for New York's Knicks basketball team.

If confirmed, the Spurs' Christmas Day game would be their first since the 2013-14 NBA season. San Antonio played on Christmas Day every year from 2013 to 2016, but has not played on the holiday since December 25, 2016.

For Spurs fans, the duel also has sentimental value. 25 years ago, San Antonio secured its first NBA title by defeating the Knicks in five games at Madison Square Garden.

The official schedule for the 2024–25 NBA season has yet to be released, but under the Walt Disney Company's current NBA contract, all Christmas Day games are typically broadcast on either KSAT 12 or ESPN.
