Mariah Carey celebrates the magic of Christmas in new music video “All I Want for Christmas Is You”

Mariah Carey kicked off the official countdown to Christmas at midnight on Friday by releasing a brand new music video for her iconic Christmas hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

The updated music video, titled “Make My Wish Come True Edition,” begins with a young girl staring longingly at a store window where Carey stands surrounded by toys.

Then the magic of Christmas begins to envelop them as time slows down and the caroler, nutcrackers and teddy bears in the shop window come to life.

The upbeat music video is very reminiscent of “Babes in Toyland,” in which the child is transported to a magical snow kingdom, complete with dancing toy soldiers, fairies, and a life-sized box of jack-in-the-boxes. From the box, Carey's 8-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, jump happily out, surprising the little girl.

Moroccan even manages to steal some attention from his mother by showing off his professional breakdance moves.

The music video ends as the girl awakens from her holiday fantasy and walks hand in hand with her parents. As she turns to give Carey one last look, the singer springs to life once again and winks goodbye at her new friend.

As the song fades away, the camera pans up into the snowy sky, just in time to capture Santa Claus and his reindeer flying by.

The new music video came at the perfect time, as after 25 years the song “All I Want for Christmas Is You” finally reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The last time a Christmas song topped the charts was in 1958-1959, when “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)” reached number one.
