Crime scene photos showing a knife stuck in a wall are causing headaches for the Norwegian royal family. They were made public a week after the arrest of the Crown Princess' son.

Marius Borg Høiby, 27, was taken into custody on August 4 and placed in solitary confinement after he “psychologically and physically” attacked his girlfriend and damaged her apartment in Oslo, reported See and hear.

Now published photos of See and hear This week, his girlfriend's damaged house was shown. A broken chandelier lay on the floor and a chef's knife seemed eerily out of place stuck in the wall.

The Norwegian magazine also reported that in a recorded phone call – intercepted by the Skaugum Estate – Høiby threatened to “set fire and burn the girl’s clothes and belongings.” Høiby has denied all allegations against him.

Further details of the alleged violent incident remain unknown, but police said in a statement that the alleged victim, a woman in her twenties, was not seriously injured by the “physical abuse.”

Høiby no longer has an official role in the Norwegian royal family, but he has been one of its most recognizable faces since his mother Mette-Marit married Crown Prince Haakon – the next in line to the throne – in 2001.

Mette-Marit had Høiby from a previous relationship. She and Haakon have two children together: Princess Ingrid Alexandria, 20, and Prince Sverre Magnus, 18. They are second and third in line to the Norwegian throne.

Høiby has been criticised for not behaving like his royal siblings, mother and stepfather. He has a number of tattoos and reportedly works as a motorbike mechanic after stepping back from royal duties at age 20.

Høiby faces a prison sentence of up to one year following his arrest. One of his ex-girlfriends has since spoken out on Instagram and suggested that he had been violent before.

Juliane Snekkestad posted that she no longer wanted to remain “silent” about the alleged matter. She said bluntly: “This has happened before. And it has to stop now.” No further details were provided.

Høiby's arrest was the focus of rumors in Norway last week. Before the incident became public, Mette-Marit's trip to Paris, where she was to visit Norwegian athletes competing in the Olympic Games, was postponed.

Arriving alone in the French capital, Haakon told reporters his wife's absence was due to a “serious matter” and declined to comment further. News of the arrest arrived not long later, and Mette-Marit arrived in Paris with her husband on Friday.
