On the morning of July 20, 2024, Montgomery County Police Detective Ryan Gable's 3rd Precinct patrol officers and detectives responded to a residence in the Legends Trace neighborhood of Spring where a special police unit vehicle was forcibly broken into and stolen from a residential driveway. 3rd Precinct detectives immediately began reviewing surveillance video and attempting to determine the location of the stolen vehicle. Items found in the vehicle were dumped near the town of Crosby in Harris County, which prompted 3rd Precinct detectives to search locations in both Harris County and Liberty County, Texas.

Later that night, the vehicle was stopped and seized in Brooks County, Texas by Texas DPS Troopers as it was traveling toward the Mexican border. Detectives from the Third District traveled to Brooks County to interview the suspects who were in possession of the stolen vehicle. During the course of the investigation, five defendants were charged and arrested over the past four weeks for grand larceny and involvement in organized crime.
