Felon who escaped from custody after a “lone wolf” killing spree in St. Mary's County sentenced

Stoney Beach Local Tyler Ray Marini Saterwho has a long criminal record, was sentenced to 59 years in prison, of which he must serve 44 years, for multiple criminal convictions related to a week-long crime spree in December 2022.

On December 13, 2022, Sater committed a knifepoint robbery at the Cloud Smoke Shop in California, prosecutors said. Less than a week later, on December 19, 2022, he committed another series of crimes at the Wildewood Shopping Center.

Sater was convicted of:

  • robbery;
  • Attempted armed carjacking;
  • Unauthorized possession of a motor vehicle;
  • Attempted injury to a police animal;
  • Villain and vagabond.

He wasn't finished yet.

While his trial was pending, Sater fled to Charles County, where he was eventually caught and convicted of second-degree escape.

“While (Sater) was on probation in several other counties for disturbingly similar crimes, he fled to our county and began a lone-wolf crime spree,” said St. Mary's County District Attorney Jaymi Sterling.

“His intentional actions victimized numerous community members, all of whom suffered the consequences of his criminal conduct.

“This ruling is a critical step to protect the public and ensures that (Sater) can no longer target the citizens of our community.”
