Vikings player Jordan Addison is injured and is carried off the field

Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison has reportedly had a Injury on Wednesday, August 14. This is according to a post by The Athletic's Alec Lewis on X (formerly Twitter), who watched the Minnesota Vikings' and Cleveland Browns' practice session ahead of their preseason game on Saturday, August 17. Here's what we know so far about the injury Addison suffered and how severe it may be.

How did Jordan Addison get injured?

According to Lewis and Matthew Coller, Jordan Addison injured himself when he dove for a contested ball and fell to the ground on the sideline, holding his leg.

According to Coller, Addison was lifted up by two trainers who helped him as he limped off the field. The wide receiver was then escorted back to the locker room. Lewis reports that several teammates gave Addison a few high-fives and wide receiver Justin Jefferson patted him on the helmet.

The latest injury update is that Addison injured his ankle, according to Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell (as reported by Lewis). He will not participate in practice on August 15, but O'Connell believes “he'll be fine,” although Addison still needs to undergo some tests.

This incident occurred after the Vikings announced on their website that their rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy would be out for the rest of the season. McCarthy underwent surgery Wednesday morning to repair a torn meniscus. O'Connell explained that while the procedure was successful, “it showed that a repair was necessary, which will end JJ's 2024 season.”

As if that wasn't enough, Addison was charged with drunken driving in July after cops found him asleep at the wheel, according to ESPN. He has been scheduled for an arraignment and hearing in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Oct. 7. It's possible the NFL could suspend him under the player conduct rules once the legal process is complete and the NFL has conducted its own investigation into the incident.
