NFL preseason, training camp live updates: Matthew Judon transfer, JJ McCarthy injury, roster predictions, joint workouts and breaking news

OWINGS MILLS, Maryland — There was a disruption in Baltimore Ravens training camp on Monday when quarterback Lamar Jackson and tight end Isaiah Likely went to a part of the field that was not being used.

Standing in the middle of the field with Likely far to his left, Jackson quickly dropped back and threw a pass toward the end zone. The onrushing Likely turned one way and the ball flew to the other side of his body, resulting in an incomplete pass and sparking a lively discussion with the quarterback and one of his top targets.

Jackson and Likely tried again. This time they were of one mind, but Likely failed to catch the ball. The next attempt was a direct hit, and soon both players hurried back to the front to rejoin their teammates.

Everyone knows about the chemistry between Jackson and tight end Mark Andrews, a three-time Pro Bowler who has caught 347 passes for 4,305 yards and 37 touchdowns in the five seasons since Jackson became a full-season starter in 2019.

However, Jackson's growing bond with Likely, a 2022 fourth-round pick who took off in the second half of last season when Andrews was injured, was evident throughout training camp. If Andrews leads all Ravens in camp receptions, Likely isn't far behind.

The former Coastal Carolina star was the star of Sunday's practice with a number of catches, including a nifty one-handed pass. His performance was just a continuation of what Likely has shown since training camp began in July. He caught short passes. He worked the middle of the field. He even got free on some long balls. Likely's hard-fought one-on-one duels with Ravens star safety Kyle Hamilton were one of the highlights of training camp.

“I would say Isaiah put together a fantastic training camp,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said earlier this week. “He was spectacular in terms of the details of his route running. I think the timing was fantastic with him. He's just a really special athlete who comes to work every day and is ready to go. We're really proud of him and we're going to keep going.”
