For her directorial debut, Anna Kendrick devotes herself to a true crime thriller about the notorious serial killer Rodney Alcala entitled Woman of the hourKendrick also plays the role of Cheryl Bradshaw, while Daniel Zovatto will portray the murderous serial killer Alcala.

Kendrick masterfully recreates the creepy encounter where Bradshaw meets Alcala on the dating game show “The Dating Game,” where the two get together and Alcala wins the show. Kendrick uses the horrific situation to examine misogyny at its worst and most extreme by showing how Alcala preys on Bradshaw and his other victims. The film premiered earlier this year and garnered Kendrick a huge wave of critical acclaim, scoring an astonishing 90 to 100 percent from critics. Red tomatoesCritics praised Kendrick's ability to handle the nonlinear narrative, balancing the joy and humor of Bradshaw with the bitter horror of Alcala's actions.

Woman of the hour doesn't yet have a confirmed release date or announced distribution plans, but fans can expect to see more of Kendrick directing soon, while her other ongoing screen appearances are still coming to theaters. The film's screenwriter, Nick Schagar, explains that this project is “frighteningly sharp and clever as its madcap monster.”
