Costco theft suspect caught on video; hitchhiking incident ends in car theft

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Sergeant Chris Kim of CrimeStoppers Honolulu was a guest on “This is Now” on Wednesday to provide his weekly crime summary.

Below are the incident descriptions from the Honolulu Police Department.

Case one: A gun was drawn during a robbery at a parking garage on Kanunu Street.

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, at approximately 4:15 a.m., the plaintiff was standing outside his home on Kanunu Street when an unknown gray four-door sedan pulled up next to him. Suspect #1 exited the vehicle, brandished a silver handgun and demanded his bag. The plaintiff refused and ran into the parking garage. Suspect #1, Suspect #2 and Suspect #3 chased him, striking him multiple times after he fell and one suspect was able to take his fanny pack. The suspects then fled to the suspect's vehicle and fled the area in an unknown direction.

DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECT #1 – Unidentified Polynesian male, medium build, 5'6″ to 6'8″, 165 lbs., tan skin, wearing a black “Get Nutz” shirt, black pants, a red beanie hat and a face mask, armed with a silver firearm.

DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECT #2 – Unidentified male, medium build, 5'8″ to 6'0″, 165 lbs, tan skin, wearing a ski mask, black hoodie and jeans.

DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECT #3 – Unidentified Polynesian male, medium build, 5'8″ to 6'0″, 165 lbs, tan skin, wearing a black hoodie, black jeans, hat and ski mask.

Case two: Theft at Costco Waipio

On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at approximately 6:39 p.m., a male suspect entered Costco Waipio, selected merchandise, and left the store without paying. The male suspect fled in a gold sedan driven by an unknown suspect.

DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECT #2 – Unknown female, slim build, long curly hair, brown complexion, wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt, black pants and white shoes.

Case three: hitchhikers become car thieves

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, at approximately 9:03 p.m., the plaintiff picked up a female suspect on Kamehameha Highway near Wilikina Drive while at the same time a male suspect got into the back seat of the plaintiff's vehicle. The plaintiff stopped and ordered the suspects to exit his vehicle. The male suspect and the plaintiff exited the vehicle and the male suspect began to assault the plaintiff. The female fled in the plaintiff's vehicle.

DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECT #1 – Unidentified male Hawaiian native, 20 to 30 years old, 6'2″ tall, 186 lbs., medium build, black hair, fair skin, wearing a red blouse and black shorts.

DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECT #2 – Unidentified Hawaiian male, 6'0″, 186 lbs., medium build, wearing a black hoodie and light colored pants.
