Sacramento County traffic stop ends in massive drug bust, officials say

(FOX40.COM) — A former convicted felon was arrested in Sacramento County Tuesday night after officers found him in possession of guns, meth, cocaine, fentanyl, hydrocodone and about $30,000 in cash.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said the drugs were discovered when its officers stopped a Toyota Camry in southern Sacramento County.

After attempting to stop the vehicle, officers say they were sent on a chase and followed the vehicle with the help of the department's helicopter. The pursuit ended when the man crashed into the back of an innocent civilian and attempted to flee on foot, but officers were quickly able to apprehend him.

“A search of his vehicle revealed nearly 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine, a quarter pound of cocaine, and nearly half a pound of fentanyl and hydrocodone pills, as well as approximately $30,000 in cash,” officials said.

The agency explained the amount of drugs found during its search and stated that a two-mg dose of fentanyl is enough to kill an adult.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, the man, later identified as Gabriel Quintero, was a convicted felon who was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.

“He was previously arrested in connection with a gang-related shooting in South Sacramento in 2012 that resulted in the murder of a three-year-old. Due to a 10-2 jury tie, Quintero was released from custody and the case was never brought back to court,” the sheriff's office said.

Quintero is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday and is currently being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail.
