Fatalities reported in crash on Highway 2 near Floodwood, 5 vehicles involved

The Minnesota State Patrol has updated its accident report on a crash in Floodwood to include fatalities, according to KSTP's sister station WDIO. No further details were released.

According to 511MN, a section of Highway 2 was closed for several hours as emergency crews searched for an accident.

The accident occurred in Arrowhead Township south of Floodwood, near Nelson Road. The Minnesota State Patrol said it happened near a construction site shortly before 3 p.m.

Five vehicles were involved, the first four – a GMC, a Ford, a Mack Semi and a Honda – were in traffic due to construction. The International Semi crashed into the stationary vehicles at highway speeds. Officials have not yet released any information on the extent of the injuries.

Drivers will be detoured. The detour will take vehicles via Nygaard Road and Paupores Road east of Gowan.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, Arrowhead Response & Fire Department, Floodwood Ambulance, Police & Fire Department, St. Louis County Rescue, Cloquet Ambulance and Life Link EMS assisted.
