'I was discharged': Collin Gosselin claims he was exempted from Marine Corps training because his mother Kate put him in an institution

Collin Gosselin, 20, who became known through his participation in the reality show “Kate Plus 8,” spoke in a recent interview about the reasons why he was discharged from the Marine Corps despite having reached and completed the final level of training.

According to People Magazine, the 20-year-old told Entertainment Tonight that he was “no longer preparing to join the U.S. military.” He said, “I was discharged.” The reality show star stated that he was nearing the end of his training and graduation, and when records were reviewed, it was revealed that he had been institutionalized at some point in his life.

He added that there doesn't have to be a deeper reason for this, and that being institutionalized alone is a sufficient reason to release someone. Collin even claimed that he tried to appeal the decision because he has few desires in his life and the biggest of them is to become a United States Marine.

He added that he didn't know what was going on and didn't know where he was going. In this regard, he said he was more scared than he had ever been in his life. Collin revealed that he didn't even say goodbye to his siblings.

Speaking about his mother Kate, he claimed she only visited him once for 30 minutes. Colline explained: “The whole time she just lectured me and told me I had destroyed our family,” adding: “Our family was in the spotlight 24/7… I'm sure the reason I was sent away was because my mother wanted to protect her reputation.”

For those unfamiliar: The 20-year-old's mother and his father Jon gave birth to twins Cara and Madelyn, as well as sextuplets Collin, Alexis, Aaden, Leah, Joel and Hannah. However, the couple's marriage did not last long; in 2009, they decided to divorce and Kate was awarded custody of the children. She then sent Collin to an institution, the reason being his “unpredictable and violent behavior,” according to People.

Back in 2019, Kate revealed to the outlet that the 20-year-old has “special needs.” To which Collin responded to ET in 2022 that it was unfortunate that Kate described him as an individual that way. He added that he doesn't see those things and doesn't think anyone else sees him that way. He added, “You know, I don't see those things and I don't think anyone else sees those things, but if she sees me that way, then that's, you know, her perspective.”
