VIENNA POLICE REUNIFY MOTHER WITH 2-YEAR-OLD CHILD WHO ESCAPED FROM APARTMENT: A local resident observed a two-year-old child walking alone on the sidewalk near Cedar Lane School (101 Cedar Lane, SW) at midnight on August 3 and immediately called police.

Vienna police officers found the child's mother frantically searching for him in the parking lot of apartments in the 200 block of Cedar Lane, SE.

The mother explained that the child had learned to open the apartment door and that she had woken up during the night to find that he had left the house. Officers discussed safety measures with the mother to better secure the apartment and make it child-proof.

50-year-old man from Vienna charged with domestic violence: On August 4, a woman who lives in Whispering Wind Court in the southeastern United States told Vienna police that her husband allegedly attacked her the previous evening around 10:30 p.m.

The resident showed visible signs of injury, police said.

Police arrested the 50-year-old Vienna man and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities charged him with domestic violence and served him with a restraining order.

TEENAGE FEMALE CALLS POLICE AFTER BEING APPROACHED BY SUSPICIOUS MAN IN VEHICLE: A juvenile went to the Chick-fil-A at 540 Maple Ave., W. at 8:30 p.m. on August 7 and called Vienna Police for assistance after a man in a vehicle approached her and acted suspiciously while she was walking north on Nutley Street, S.

The teenager recently received unusual text messages from someone she believes may be a former acquaintance and believes this encounter may be related, police said.

An officer stayed with the teen until her parents arrived to take her home. Police informed them of the process for obtaining a restraining order.

VIENNA RESIDENT REPORTS THAT MEN IN A VAN TAKEN HER HOME AND HER FARM: On August 6, a resident of the 700 block of Skyline Court, NE, reported to Vienna Police that the previous day between 1 and 3 p.m., two men drove past her home in a van and filmed the house and yard.

INATMOSTATION IN VIENNA DRIVE AROUND TWO TREES: A driver traveling northbound in the area of ​​900 Ware Street, SW, at 5:46 p.m. on Aug. 4 became distracted, crossed into the southbound lane, went over the curb and struck two trees, Vienna police said.

MAN IS REMOVED FROM VIENNA BUSINESS BAN AFTER DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR: An employee at Wawa, 465 Maple Ave., W., notified Vienna Police at 9:32 p.m. on August 5 that a man was inside the store asking customers for money.

When the man was asked to leave the store, he stopped in the middle of the parking lot, refused to give way to the vehicles and was nearly hit several times, police reported.

At the request of the management, the man was banned from the premises.

VIENNA SHOP SALESWOMAN SAYS TEENAGER TRIED TO BUY GIFT CARD WITH FAKE PIGS: An employee at Wawa, 465 Maple Ave., W., told Vienna police at 1:29 p.m. on August 5 that a male teenager entered the store and attempted to purchase a gift card using counterfeit bills.

The teenager quickly left the store when the cashier pointed out that the money was counterfeit, police reported.

Woman's wallet stolen from handbag, charged with attempted fraud: A woman left her purse unattended in her shopping cart while shopping at Michaels, 311 Maple Ave., E., at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 2, Vienna police said.

When she went to the checkout, she discovered that her wallet had been stolen.

A short time later, someone tried to make fraudulent charges on two of her credit cards at the CVS drugstore at 337 Maple Ave. E., police said.

MAN FROM VIENNA REPORTS THAT THE WINDOW OF HIS VEHICLE WAS SMASHED, POSSIBLY BY AN AIR GUN: A resident of the 500 block of Kibler Circle, SW, noticed sometime between 7:30 p.m. on August 6 and 7:30 a.m. on August 7 that one of the windows of his vehicle was broken.

The incident may have been caused by an air rifle, Vienna police said.

TRUMP campaign flag stolen from a Viennese woman’s tree: A woman who lives in the 1000 block of Hillcrest Drive (SW) told Vienna police that sometime between August 2 and August 5, someone stole a Trump campaign flag that she had tied to a tree in her yard.

VIENNA WOMAN REPORTS PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVE PERSON WHO RAN THROUGH HER GARBAGE: A woman who lives in the 500 block of Windover Avenue, NW, told Vienna police at 7:46 p.m. on August 2 that someone went through her trash after she put it out for pickup.

The person later repackaged the trash and left it on their porch with messages.

The resident suspects that this could be an ongoing dispute with a neighbor, police said.

VIENNA MAN CHARGED WITH DRUNK AFTER ALLEGEDLY ATTEMPTING TO ENTER SOMEONE ELSE’S APARTMENT: A resident of the 100 block of Patrick Street (SE) reported to Vienna Police at 6:53 p.m. on August 3 that a man was attempting to break into his apartment.

Officers discovered the man in front of another apartment and noticed signs of impairment when interacting with him, police said.

Police arrested the 37-year-old Vienna man and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities charged him with public intoxication.

VIENNA SMALL BUSINESS SELLER SAYS 3 TEENAGERS STOLE ALCOHOL: On August 5, an employee at 7-Eleven, 537 Maple Ave., W., notified Vienna Police that on August 3 at 6:30 p.m., three male teenagers entered the store and stole alcohol.

VIENNA BRANCH MANAGER REPORTS THAT 3 SUSPECTS STOLE ALCOHOL: The manager of Walgreens, 225 Maple Ave., E., reported at 6:54 p.m. Aug. 3 that three men entered the store, stole five packages of alcohol and then fled the area in a vehicle, Vienna police said.

MAN STEALS TIP BOX FROM VIENNA RESTAURANT: An employee at Panera Bread, 136 Maple Ave., W., notified Vienna police at 8:54 a.m. on August 7 that a man had stolen a tip jar from the store.

Suspiciously large bone in the backyard of a Viennese turns out to be a treat for dogs: A resident of the 2400 block of Oak Vale Court, NW, notified Vienna Police at 1:01 p.m. on August 4 of the discovery of a large bone in the backyard.

An officer determined the bone was a beef bone, which is sold in most pet stores for dogs, police said.

Fairfax County Police Announce Successes of Safe July Initiative: As part of the Fairfax County Police Department's summer crime prevention initiative, 39 drunk drivers were arrested and 658 traffic violations were issued for unsafe driving in July.

This year's initiative focuses on reducing drunk driving and promoting safe driving behaviors throughout Fairfax County. Officers from all eight county stations worked with the then department's DWI Enforcement Squad to increase enforcement efforts and were strategically deployed to target high-risk areas based on data from crime analysts.

In July, county police charged 39 people with drunk driving, 127 with speeding and reckless driving, 31 with hands-free device violations, 103 with disobeying traffic signs and 356 other traffic violations. Police also arrested two people for serious crimes.

Fairfax County Police will maintain the coordinated efforts of the department's summer crime prevention initiative through August.
