Second person arrested in Lowell Badger murder case

A second person has been arrested in connection with the 2012 murder of Lowell Badger. Badger was killed in his home south of Carlisle in far southern Sullivan County.

On Tuesday, an arrest warrant was issued for 39-year-old Richard D. Taft. The Sullivan Superior Court document was served on Taft while he was incarcerated at the Michigan City Correctional Facility. Taft is charged with murder and two counts of burglary with assault; he is currently still being housed at the Michigan City Correctional Facility. He has served time in prison for previous convictions, including two charges of meth trafficking; he was arrested on those charges as well because he is a habitual offender.

He is charged in the case alongside William Ray Grimes; Grimes was arrested in April on charges of murder, burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary. Grimes was indicted after deliberation by a Sullivan County grand jury.
