Detention hearing postponed against man who allegedly shot two people

A detention hearing for a Bridgeton man who allegedly shot two other men in an apartment complex on Saturday was postponed Thursday after the state requested a three-day delay.

Cas Albert Miller, 31, is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Court at 9 a.m. on August 20. He is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault with a weapon and various other weapons offenses.

“A senior assistant district attorney is out of the office and this is a case that she needs to handle,” Assistant District Attorney Chris Keller told Supreme Court Judge Joseph M. Chiarello before the motion was granted. “She's out for three days.”

Police responded to a report of a shooting and went to the Amity Heights apartment complex on Pamphylia Avenue, where they found two victims, ages 45 and 31, suffering from gunshot wounds, police said in a news release.

One man was taken to a nearby hospital and is in critical but stable condition, while the other victim was treated at the scene and released, police said.

Miller was arrested during a traffic stop outside the complex a few hours after the shooting, police said.

Miller is being held in the Cumberland County Jail.
