Jefferson City resident arrested after chase in Cole County

A 48-year-old man was arrested on August 15 following a chase in Cole County.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, an officer with the Jefferson City Police Department (JCPD) attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. However, the vehicle stopped and drove away at a high rate of speed.

The officer turned on the hazard lights and siren and followed the suspect's car through several streets in Jefferson City.

The JCPD was eventually able to set up spike barriers and stop the vehicle. After the car stopped, the suspect attempted to elude police by running from the scene.

After a short foot chase, the police managed to arrest the man and find several grams of methamphetamine on him.

He was taken into custody at the Cole County Jail and released pending bail. The man faces the following charges: failure to stop for an emergency vehicle, careless and reckless operation of a vehicle, failure to register a motor vehicle, four counts of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, leaving the scene of an accident without permission and first-degree drug trafficking.
