Lawrence police seize over 800 fentanyl pills and 34 pounds of other drugs

LAWRENCE, Kansas (KCTV) – Lawrence Police made a major contribution to the fight against the opioid epidemic during the second week of August.

During a vehicle stop, police seized more than 800 fentanyl tablets from a suspected drug dealer. This stop is the result of an investigation by the Lawrence Directed Investigation Unit.

The ingestion of the 800 pills is in addition to the 14.9 kg of methamphetamine and 5.7 kg of cocaine seized by Lawrence police on the same day in the same week, but these incidents were unrelated.

“The complexity of this investigation and the expertise required to make a seizure of this magnitude cannot be overstated,” said Police Chief Rich Lockhart. “The tireless work of our investigators has resulted in more than 800 potentially lethal doses of poison being kept off the streets of Lawrence. The opioid epidemic has already affected so many lives, and every pill we seize is a pill that could kill someone in our community. We are determined to rid our community of this menace, and this seizure is a critical step toward that goal.”
