Dave Canales announces that Chuba Hubbard suffered a knee injury during Panthers training

The Panthers got a scare on Thursday when Chuba Hubbard injured his knee during training with the Jets. But coach Dave Canales announced better news about the running back after training.

Canales told reporters: “Chuba has been eliminated – that was very worrying. The first tests look pretty good, so they will continue to investigate. We will have more information about him there.”

“It was a test on his knee, just to make sure everything was stable. It really was a real-time collision.”

Canales did not question the attack and said it was not “dirty”.

“It was two guys facing each other,” the Panthers coach said. “And (Hubbard's) foot kind of gave out underneath him. So the initial tests were very positive. But we'll do all the follow-up and make sure he's completely ready before we put him back on the field.”

Hubbard is considered the Panthers' starter, at least until his rookie year Jonathon Brooksthe best running back in the April draft, is eligible to play again. Towards the end of last season in Texas, Brooks tore his anterior cruciate ligament and had to undergo surgery.

Hubbard, the former Oklahoma State star, was injured when he slipped just before a hard hit from the Jets safety Chuck ClarkHubbard got up, but never returned to the practice.
