Tampa man convicted of threatening prosecutor and jury during trial

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A Tampa man has been sentenced to six years and five months in federal prison after threatening a federal prosecutor and jury in the middle of his trial.

Dempsey Emmanuel Gilmore, 33, was found guilty of threatening to kill an assistant U.S. attorney during a jury trial in federal court on March 9.

The U.S. Justice Department said that after the jury cast its votes, Gilmore got up from the table, walked toward the jury and began threatening them.

After the jury left the courtroom, Gilmore attacked the assistant U.S. attorney and threatened to kill her.

According to the Justice Department, he was detained by several court security officers and federal agents.

In addition to the more than six months he will spend in federal prison, Gilmore was sentenced to an additional 24 months in prison to be served after his initial 30-year sentence.

Gilmore pleaded guilty to the crime on March 29.
