Freedom: LG emphasizes responsibility and transparency in corporate governance on Independence Day |

LG: Freedom gives the right to hold the government accountable

New Delhi: Hoisting the national flag at Raj Niwas on Thursday, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena appealed to the people of Delhi to promote sustainable development and stressed on accountability and transparency in governance.
Addressing a gathering on Independence Day, Saxena added: Freedom grants the right to remain vigilant to ensure the fulfillment of one’s own interests and to ensure that the government responsible.
Regarding the efforts to clean up the Yamuna that flows through the city, he said that although the river belongs to everyone, it is primarily the government's duty to keep it clean. “On the other hand, it is our responsibility to support the government in this endeavour,” Saxena said.
Saxena said the Yamuna ghats and their floodplains in Delhi have been developed into eco-friendly public green spaces in the form of Asita, Bansera and Vasudev Ghat, bringing Delhi residents closer to the river and participating in its renewal.
He also highlighted that several historical sites like Mehrauli Archaeological Park, St. James Church, Sanjay Van, Shalimar Bagh, Rajaon ki Baoli and Anang Tal Baoli have already been conserved, preserved and restored or are currently in the process. Saxena called on the people of Delhi to play a positive role in realising the dream of Viksit Bharat (developed Bharat) propagated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and exuded confidence that all are committed to building a strong and capable nation.
LG paid tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation, spoke about the country's arduous journey to independence and highlighted the challenges ahead. “We have paid a heavy price for our freedom. Millions of patriots have written the history of independent India with their blood. While some of their names are well known to us, there are millions more whose names we have never heard. Today is the day to pay our respects to these unsung heroes of the freedom movement,” Saxena said.
Highlighting India's rapid progress in various sectors, LG said the successful hosting of the G20 Summit and World Heritage Conference recently underlined the country's growing importance on the world stage. He congratulated all the medallists of the recently concluded Paris Olympics as well as wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified before the final, and praised all the participants for their exceptional performance and contribution to India's pride.
