Tragic collision in Khargone: One dead, six injured in multi-vehicle accident

An 18-year-old woman lost her life and six others were injured in a tragic multi-vehicle accident in Khargone district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, police reports said.

The accident occurred when a truck loaded with wheat failed to operate its brakes while driving over a slope near Ganesh Ghat on the Agra-Mumbai national highway, an official said.

The truck collided with the rear of a container vehicle, which caught fire. The container then crashed into six cars and a bus. Inspector Pankaj Tiwari of Maheshwar police station said rescue workers put out the fire and took the injured to a hospital in Indore.

Among the injured was Riya Jadhav, an 18-year-old bus passenger who succumbed to her injuries. Jadhav had leaned out of the bus window to vomit when she was fatally injured, the police official said.

Inspector Tiwari also pointed out that the affected section of the highway was notorious for its accident frequency and was considered a “difficulty area”.
