A 48-year-old Cathedral City man died Thursday after he apparently suffered a medical emergency while driving and collided with two cars, police said.

The accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. on Vista Chino, west of the intersection with Avenida Quintana, which is near an entrance to the Desert Princess condominium, according to a news release from Cathedral City police.

Police said an initial investigation suggests the driver was traveling eastbound on Vista Chino before crashing and drifting into the westbound lanes, where he struck two other vehicles. The driver, whose name was not immediately released by police because his next of kin are still being notified of his death, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of one of the other vehicles was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, while the driver of the third vehicle was uninjured.
