rust Director Joel Souza spoke about his feelings after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot on set because a gun held by Alec Baldwin failed to go off.

“I remember going to sleep that night and hoping not to wake up the next morning,” said 51-year-old Souza Vanity Fair in an interview published on Thursday, August 15.

“I was hoping I would just bleed to death overnight because I didn't want to be here anymore. It was a very difficult moment. I remember thinking: Maybe I'll just bleed to death – that would be just the thing for me.”

The 42-year-old camerawoman Halyna Hutchins was killed by a weapon in the hands of rust Star Alec Baldwin in October 2021. The bullet also injured Souza, but fortunately missed his lung.

“It’s bizarre to have been shot,” he recalled the trauma in the same interview.

“And who was holding the gun? That's bizarre. I had this weird thought, like, God, I remember Hunt for Red October in the movies when I was a kid. It's like your older self whispering to your younger self, 'Hey, that guy… someday.'… Life can take you down very bizarre paths.”

Souza remained silent on the case after the shooting.
