Two brothers killed in shooting in Irbid, police arrest suspect

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN – A 37-year-old man who was allegedly shot and seriously injured by his neighbor in Irbid on Thursday succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital, official sources said.

The victim was shot along with his 28-year-old brother, who died on Wednesday after a fight with their neighbor.

“The victim's brother was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition after being shot in the chest,” a senior judicial source said.

Early Thursday morning, the senior judicial source told the Jordan Times that the older brother had died in hospital.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Amer Sartawi confirmed the death of a second person who was injured during the brawl.

“We are still investigating the shooting incident and interviewing witnesses,” Sartawi told the Jordan Times.

“Police were able to arrest the suspect and confiscate a weapon that we believe was used in the shooting,” Sartawi said earlier.

A medical source told the Jordan Times that both victims died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Official sources said the public prosecutor's office had been informed about the shooting and witnesses had been summoned for questioning.

According to the official source, investigators also sent the weapon seized at the crime scene to the forensics and laboratory department for further analysis and ballistic comparison.

The suspect was ordered to be placed in a reformatory and rehabilitation center pending further investigation into the incident.
