Bodycam video shows violent struggle for a Riverside County police officer's firearm before woman is shot

CORONA, Calif. (KABC) — The Riverside County Sheriff has released bodycam video of a deputy's fight with two people that ultimately led to the fatal shooting of a female suspect.

In the video, the male suspect is seen waiting for the deputy behind a building and then attacking him. They struggle on the ground and wrestle for control of the deputy's firearm while the man repeatedly tells the woman, “Kill him! Kill him! Kill him!” and “Keep fighting!” The woman repeatedly repeats, “In the name of Jesus, I rebuke you!”

The incident occurred on June 11 at around 1:10 a.m. in Corona.

The department said a deputy from the Lake Matthews Sheriff's Station saw a man and woman “exercising unusual behavior” and stopped to speak with them. They took off running and he pursued them on foot.

Surveillance video from a nearby business shows the two turning the corner of a building and then waiting against the wall. When the officer reaches them, the man lunges at him and they begin to fight.

On the deputy's bodycam video, the man can be heard repeatedly telling the woman, “Kill him. Kill him,” and “It's the devil to kill him.”

The woman can be heard repeatedly saying, “In the name of Jesus, I rebuke you,” as she tries to intervene and kicks the MP several times.

You can also hear the man saying to the woman: “Get the gun, get the gun.”

At one point, the deputy and the male suspect argue over the service weapon in the deputy's hand.

The deputy can be heard saying, “Get him. He's stealing my gun.”

The struggle continued even after the woman was shot. Eventually, some Good Samaritans arrived and helped the officer get the male suspect under control.

“I want to express my gratitude to the brave Samaritans who assisted our deputy,” said Riverside Sheriff Chad Bianco. “Their selfless act made a difference in the outcome of this incident.”

The woman received medical treatment and was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The man was later identified as Eric John Nourani, 32, of San Diego. He was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder of a police officer, assault and resisting a police officer with violence.

The woman was identified as Jennifer Rose Dobbins, 30, of Imperial Beach.

In accordance with standard department policy, the deputy was placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.

The state Department of Justice is involved in the investigation of the shooting, which involved a deputy sheriff, in accordance with state law.
