Man seriously injured in shooting, woman closing tobacco shop grazed by bullet in Bronx

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Bronx (WABC) — A woman closing a tobacco shop was one of two people hit by bullets outside a corner store in the Bronx.

The 37-year-old woman was closing up the store on West Fordham Road in University Heights when shots rang out outside the corner store around 1:10 a.m. Friday.

A 43-year-old man was shot once in the back and taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical but stable condition.

The woman heard the commotion and only realized minutes later that she, too, had been hit by the shots.

She suffered a graze on her right thigh and was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital, where her condition is stabilized.

Police found surveillance video that showed a group involved in an argument outside the bodega before the shots were fired.

A man involved in an argument with the victim was described as 6'2″ tall, wearing a black shirt, white sneakers and blue jeans.

No arrests have been made and the motive for the shooting is currently under investigation.
