The former UFC champion describes an incident at the Olympics in which Khamzat Chimaev tried to fight him

The 2024 Olympic Games recently took place in Paris, France, and former UFC double world champion Henry Cejudo has revealed a fight he had with undefeated UFC middleweight Khamzat Chimaev.

Outside the Octagon, Khamzat Chimaev is a polarizing figure due to his antics, but inside the Octagon he is one of the UFC's most exciting fighters.

“Borz’s” fight against former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker was recently postponed to UFC 308 in October; it will be a five-round co-main event.

Henry Cejudo describes his confrontation with Khamzat Chimaev at the Olympic Games

Before the 30-year-old heads to the biggest training camp of his career to date, he enjoyed some time at the recent Olympic Games in Paris.

Former UFC double world champion Henry Cejudo was also at the Olympics watching the wrestling. During his stay, he clashed with Chimaev, claiming the Chechen tried to fight him.

“I've got an insane story for you, man,” Cejudo told Kamaru Usman during the latest episode of the Pound 4 Pound podcast. “Guess who was in the Olympics trying to fight the Triple C?”

The former welterweight champion tried to guess who it was after Cejudo told him he had fought him before.

After guessing Colby Covington, Leon Edwards and Tyron Woodley, Cejudo revealed he meant Chimaev and then told the story of why the 30-year-old was trying to fight him.

“Oh, damn, I don't know man (why he tried to fight me). I think these guys take shit so personally, I don't know man, I think I'm rooting for you, I'm rooting for (Paulo Costa), I'm kind of telling the truth a little bit, I think as an analyst you have to tell the truth and that's OK (that's what I do).”

“Yeah, I'm weird and stuff, but I usually say certain things because I mean it, so I think (he wanted to fight me). He was in the ticket line, I was outside trying to get my damn ticket because everything was sold out, and I think he couldn't get in either.

“And then he sees me and says, 'Henry Cejudo, you're a piece of shit,' and I felt like this guy has a (problem) because he blocked me on all social media. I said, 'Why am I a piece of shit,' and he said I'm just a piece of shit,” Cejudo explained.

Cejudo believes the incident could damage Chimaev's career

With Chimaev often involved in things outside the cage, Cejudo believes moments like this could harm his future career.

UFC CEO Dana White recently admitted following Chimaev's withdrawal from his recently scheduled fight against Whittaker that he was difficult to deal with due to his ongoing health issues, but possibly also because of his life outside the cage.

“Something like that could really hurt Khamzat if he gets really emotional. How many fights has he pulled out of, how many fans and trolls think they're trolling him, and how angry you could get, and the last thing you want is to fight emotionally,” Cejudo claimed.

Nevertheless, Chimaev could secure another title shot with a win over “The Reaper” in October, but will have to wait until Sean Strickland can fight for the undisputed gold again.
