Home invasion leads to police chase that ends in police-involved shootout in DeKalb County

CHAMBLEE, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Authorities say a home invasion late Thursday in Brookhaven led to a chase and a car crash in Chamblee where officers eventually shot and killed a suspect.

According to authorities, four armed men broke into a home on Caldwell Road in Brookhaven around 10 p.m. Thursday night. A gunfire exchanged between the men and the residents of the house.

Officials say the men sped from the scene when police arrived and began a chase. The chase ended in a crash at the intersection of Chamblee-Dunwoody Road and Peachtree Boulevard in Chamblee.

“Four people in the vehicle attempted to flee. Multiple weapons were found on the perpetrators at the scene, which led to an officer-involved shootout,” said Jeffery Gant of the Brookhaven Police Department.

The suspect shot by police was taken to a nearby hospital. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation describes his condition as critical.

Two other suspects have been arrested and a fourth is still on the run. Police believe he may be armed and dangerous.

Authorities are currently investigating the break-in and the scene of the accident.

Brookhaven Police have asked the GBI to take over the investigation.
