Students of Mangalagiri AIIMS suspend non-emergency services in protest against Kolkata incident

In protest against the rape and murder of a colleague in Kolkata, students of the All India Institute of Medical Science in Mangalagiri have suspended all non-urgent services since Friday.

A postgraduate student of RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata was raped and murdered in the early hours of August 9.

As part of an indefinite strike, non-emergency services have been suspended from 8:30 a.m. today. However, all emergency services such as intensive care, delivery room, etc. will continue as usual.

“The junior doctors (senior and junior doctors) along with the interns and students of AIIMS, Mangalagiri have unanimously decided to stop all non-urgent services indefinitely,” NVS Krishna Reddy, a medical officer at the college, told PTI.

He also said that students of three colleges – AIIMS, Government Siddhartha Medical College and Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Medical College – will take out a rally in Vijayawada today.
