Man denies incitement to murder after stabbings in Southport

A Lancashire man has denied deliberately inciting murder and violent disorder in connection with recent unrest in Southport and Liverpool.

Andrew McIntyre, 39, of Cousins Lane, Rufford, pleaded not guilty at Liverpool Crown Court to incitement to murder by electronic communication and incitement to violent disorder by electronic communication.

He also denied possessing a pocket knife in a public place on Smithdown Road, Liverpool, on 8 August.

He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on November 4 for a case hearing, with a tentative trial date set for February 3.

Judge Neil Flewitt recognized the public interest in the case.

The defendant waved to his parents in the audience as he was led into the courtroom.

He spoke only to confirm his name and plead not guilty to three criminal charges.

Prosecutor Chris Taylor confirmed to Judge Flewitt that the presumption, “simply put”, was that Mr McIntyre was the administrator of an online group.

He is alleged to have incited supporters of the group to murder and called for participation in the riots that had taken place shortly before in Merseyside.
