A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting Sunday morning in the Old Highlands neighborhood that left two other men dead.

Louisville Metro Police arrested 37-year-old Richie Raymont Williams on Thursday in connection with the death of 29-year-old Montay Wade in the Baxter Avenue shooting. He is charged with murder and possession of a handgun as a convicted felon and is currently being held at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.

In a statement, Louisville Metro City Councilman Ben Reno-Weber said police believe the incident was targeted and occurred in the presence of two off-duty uniformed police officers.

“The Metro Police believe that this was a targeted attack in the course of a longer-running conflict rather than an isolated incident that evening,” said Reno-Weber.

The arrest was made by LMPD's Homicide and Crime Unit after two people were shot in the 900 block of Baxter Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Sunday, LMPD spokesman John Bradley said. One man, later identified as 20-year-old Michael Bachelor Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man, later identified as Wade, was taken by paramedics to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A short time later, a third man injured in the shooting was taken by private vehicle to Norton Women and Children's Hospital. He is expected to survive, Bradley said.

Bachelor Jr.'s case remains under separate investigation, police said.
