British judge at Hong Kong's Supreme Court resigns from media freedom group's advisory board in light of criticism

A British judge who was part of a Hong Kong court panel that unanimously rejected the appeals of jailed prominent publisher Jimmy Lai and six former pro-democracy lawmakers has resigned from his post on the advisory panel of an international media freedom group amid concerns about his role in the city's top court.

David Neuberger, a non-permanent foreign judge on Hong Kong's highest court, announced in a statement Wednesday his resignation as chairman of the high-level panel of legal experts on media freedom. The panel advises the Media Freedom Coalition, a partnership of countries committed to media freedom.
