Trouble at PBKS ahead of IPL 2025? Preity Zinta takes Punjab Kings co-owner to court to stop stake sale – report

Apparently, all is not well in the internal affairs of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Although there is no official confirmation on the matter, disagreements seem to have crept in between the owners of the team. The matter seems to have gotten so out of hand that Preity Zinta, one of the four co-owners of the franchise, has gone to court and obtained an injunction against another promoter.

A report by Tribune suggests that the Bollywood actress, who owns a 23 percent stake in the team through KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, has filed an appeal in the Chandigarh High Court. The 49-year-old actress wants an interim injunction from the court to prevent co-owner Mohit Bumran from selling part of his shares to a third party.

Reason for Preity Zinta's application for interim injunction unclear

“Preity Zinta said Burman holds about 48 percent of the shares and is also on the board of directors. She has filed an application under Section 9 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 seeking interim measures and directions in respect of the disputes and differences between her and the respondent Mohit Burman,” the report in the above-mentioned publication said.

While the original report does not mention any specific reason for Preity's request for an order from the Supreme Court, another report by Cricbuzz suggests that as per the original agreement, a co-owner who wants to sell a stake in the team will have to first offer it to the existing promoters. Only if the current promoters refuse to buy it, will the stake be offered to a third party.
