Man arrested after shooting that led to standoff with police on Northeast Side

SAN ANTONIO – A man was taken into custody after a shooting led to a standoff with police on the Northeast Side.

The shooting occurred around 2 p.m. Friday at a home near the corner of Jones Falls Drive and Misty Springs Drive.

According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), officers were called to the scene of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a man firing approximately seven shots from a rifle at a neighbor's home. While police were gathering information from the homeowner about the shooting, the suspect left the home he was in with a long gun in his hand.

Officers quickly turned their attention to him and attempted to arrest the suspect. When they saw the suspect was carrying a weapon, officers took cover and surrounded the home. The suspect then closed the garage door and barricaded himself inside. Police immediately called for backup and SWAT negotiation teams. While waiting for backup to arrive, officers had the suspect surrounded inside the home.

During this time, the suspect repeatedly left the house, carrying a weapon, and exited the garage door and front door, then closed the door again.

“The offender would come through the garage door every now and then, open the door with a gun in his hand, and then close the garage door. He would come back out, emerge through the front door and close the door again, so it was kind of a cat-and-mouse game,” said SAPD Sergeant Washington Moscoso.

When SWAT teams arrived, they were able to speak with the suspect and arrest him without incident.

The suspect was identified as a 44-year-old man with a criminal record. He was arrested for deadly conduct and the Criminal Investigation Department is investigating to determine what further charges may be brought against him.

No one in the neighboring house was injured.
