Yeraldy Rodriguez, who lives in the neighborhood, said:

“I was in my house, but I went out to let my dogs out, and then all the police were outside. Everything and everyone was outside, but I went into the house. Then the next day I heard about everything that had happened.”

Seeing children and families spending time outside in the neighborhood was a common sight, so it was a shock to many when the violence occurred

Tarren Freeman, who also lives in the neighborhood, was shocked when he found out all this.

“It was shocking. I didn't expect it for miles. When I first heard it, I thought it was a joke,” Freeman added.

After a five-day trial, a verdict was finally reached, giving AJ Owen's family and neighbors some much-needed closure.

“It's bad, but I think she should pay for what she did,” Rodriguez added.

“Justice has been done, you know, either way both families have suffered losses,” Freeman said.

AJ Owens' mother said, “I pray that we can find some peace and begin the healing process as we move forward.”

With the case closed, the relatives now have the opportunity to process the matter and look forward.
