Health officials on alert as measles case emerges in southeast Idaho

According to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, a child in southeastern Idaho has been diagnosed with measles.

According to the ministry, the child was on a trip abroad and was not vaccinated against the disease. Although he was examined by medical personnel, he was not hospitalized.

The child traveled through several states, including Wyoming and southeast Idaho, between August 7 and August 16 while infectious. However, because the child's travel history is incomplete, there may be people who were exposed to the virus that the Southeast Idaho Health Department has not yet identified.

If you think you have recently been in contact with someone who has had measles, contact your doctor and watch for any of these symptoms for 21 days after infection: fever, runny nose, cough, and rash.

Although measles is generally a childhood disease, adults who are not vaccinated or have not had the disease can also become ill.

According to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, the best way to protect yourself and your family is to be up to date with a measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccination.
