Crime report week of August 9 to 12

9 August

MORVEN – At 11:38 a.m., officers arrived at a residence on Highway 52 South following a report of a “tire slashing.” While speaking with the victim, Deputy Austin D. Langley learned that the actual tire slashing had occurred three days prior. The victim found all four tires on his $100 Nissan Frontier pickup truck slashed and took his pickup to a repair shop where he had all four tires inflated. When the victim noticed that the front tires were flat again after only three days, he told Deputy Langley that he was now interested in filing a report. The case is ongoing.

WADESBORO — At 5:56 p.m., officers arrived at a home on Morgan Sellers Road after a report of a damaged front door that may have been caused by a shooting. When Deputy Jacky King arrived at the home, he learned from the victim that her children had heard what sounded like gunshots earlier in the day. When she went to open her front door, she found the glass on her screen door had shattered around a hole in the upper right corner of the window. A hole consistent with a bullet wound was found in one of the children's bedrooms, consistent with damage to one of the shutters outside the children's bedroom. The damage appeared to be consistent with a bullet hole. The victim later found a bullet lodged in her kitchen. After being notified by dispatch, Deputies Cox and Marsh responded to the scene at 7:24 p.m. to secure evidence. Total damage is estimated at $5,000. The case is ongoing.

WADESBORO — At 6:49 p.m., Deputy Jacky King rushed to a Union Street home after a victim reported someone had made a threatening phone call. The caller threatened the victim with threats rather than actual words, saying he would either burn him or shoot him, as he was disappointed that the victim's testimony in a previous case had led to the caller being arrested several days earlier. The case is ongoing.

10 August

LILESVILLE — At 7:46 a.m., dispatch alerted Deputy Cory Howard that a gang of young brown dogs had broken into a pen and murdered several cats at a residence on Haileys Ferry Road. When Deputy Howard arrived, he discovered several dead cats, digging marks, and a hole in the back of the fenced area where the cats lived. The victim stated that he had chased the suspected killers off her property the night before and knew they belonged to a gentleman down the street from her home. When Deputy Howard followed up with the suspected owner, no one came to the door, although he did notice several dogs matching the victim's description loitering on the property. The case is ongoing.

WADESBORO – At 11:11 a.m., Deputy Kyle Beam spoke by phone with a victim who reported that someone smashed the rear driver's door window of his 2012 Chrysler 200S. Damage is estimated at $300. According to the victim, the car was secured at 5 p.m. the previous evening. Upon searching the vehicle, the victim found nothing was missing. A witness reported hearing the car's alarm go off at around 3 p.m. The case is ongoing.

MORVEN – At 10:05 p.m., Deputy Stephen D. Marsh responded to a robbery on East Main St. When Deputy Marsh arrived on the scene, he learned from the victim that he had been attacked by two unknown males while attempting to pass the closed gas station. The victim was not bleeding, but reported his head injury to Deputy Marsh. Emergency services were notified and the victim was taken to the Anson Atrium. The case is ongoing.

12 August

MORVEN – At 8:59 a.m., Deputy Luis Galvan responded to Sandy Ridge Church Road for a report that someone had fired shots at an unoccupied vehicle, damaging the window and steering wheel. Damage was estimated at $500. The case is ongoing.
