Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office arrests teenager in connection with fentanyl-related death

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) has arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the death of a 16-year-old girl who was found dead in her bedroom earlier this year.

In February, officers rushed to a home on Miller Street in Fort Walton Beach and discovered the girl dead. An investigation at the scene found several pills that were later identified as fentanyl.

The suspect, 17-year-old Sa Qualen Grant, is accused of giving the victim the drugs that led to her death. OCSO investigators determined that the victim and Grant had arranged to meet at a public location where the victim purchased the pills from him.

Authorities were able to secure and review video footage showing the hand-to-hand transaction between the victim and Grant. Although Grant initially denied any knowledge of the victim, evidence from Grant's phone and the video footage contradicted his statements.

The medical examiner's report confirmed that the cause of death was fentanyl poisoning. Grant was charged with manslaughter of a child in connection with the case.
