Son of rock legend accused of killing girlfriend, person linked to second death

Brent Clifford, the son of Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer Doug Clifford, was arrested this week and faces murder charges in Nevada, according to multiple reports, after police there say he killed his girlfriend.

FOX News reported that Clifford is also considered a suspect in another death case.

The website says the 55-year-old was booked into the South Placer County Jail on Thursday and was denied bail. According to the report, the remains of Patricia Portella-Wright, believed to be 48, were found alongside Mt. Rose Highway in Washoe County, Nevada. The other death in which he is suspected, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office, occurred in Reno.

Placer County Sergeant David Smith told FOX News that Portella-Wright's death was “obviously foul play.” He told the site that investigators “have worked tirelessly over the last week to help Patricia's family close the case and find Patricia's body.”

FOX reported that The sheriff's office said Portella-Wright, of Kings Beach, California, was last seen on August 4. She was reported missing last Friday. In a Facebook post, the sheriff's office said an investigation led them to the area near Mt. Rose Highway.

“With the help of a drone, we were able to locate the body of a woman on a steep slope,” the statement said.

“During our investigation, we identified her boyfriend, Brent Clifford, as a person of interest in connection with her disappearance,” the statement said. “On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Clifford was arrested in Portola, California. He was booked into the Placer County Jail on a murder charge.”

FOX said Reno police are treating the death of a man there as a homicide and have placed Clifford on the person of interest list.

“The red 2003 Chevrolet Blazer belonging to the murder victim was found in the same area in Portola where Clifford was arrested,” the Placer County Sheriff's Office said, according to FOX.
